Information provided by: United Way of Connecticut

Injured workers employed by Connecticut companies, and eligible surviving dependents of workers killed on the job, are eligible for State of Connecticut workers' compensation benefits. When an employee's physical injury or death is work-related, the injured worker or surviving spouse or other eligible dependent may be entitled to weekly wage replacement benefits equal to 75% of the injured or deceased employee's after-tax average weekly wage (after federal and state taxes and FICA deductions), subject to the legislated maximum and minimum. Eligible dependents include a surviving spouse until his/her death or remarriage, OR a child till age 18 (or age 22 if a full time student) OR a child any age who is incapacitated because of a physical or mental disability. Other benefits include payment for needed medical treatment, and a funeral benefit for deceased workers.Apply for benefits at the Workers' Compensation office that serves the town in which the employer is located. The statute of limitations in Connecticut for filing a compensation claim for an accidental injury or death is one year from the date of the injury/death; for an occupational disease it is three years from the first manifestation of a symptom.NOTE: In Connecticut, work related mental health problems (stress, panic disorder, PTSD, etc.) which prevent the worker from returning to his/her job DO NOT qualify the worker for benefits. Treatment for mental conditions is covered only when the primary injury is physical and is subsequently causing mental health problems.
