TCC Yellow Jackets using bye week to focus on mental health

Sep. 8—THOMASVILLE — After a three game win streak that saw the Yellow Jackets defeat rivals Thomasville and Cairo, Thomas County Central is on a bye this week. Though they won't be preparing for a game this week, the team has still kept up with practice and made sure to give themselves a mental break from football.

Central head coach Justin Rogers stressed the importance of taking care of his players mentally and making sure they get a break so that they can stay engaged throughout the season.

"Anytime we're open we try to give some time off for mental health," said Rogers. "I mean, obviously physical health to take a little bit off the body, but I think the mental health is every bit as important. I think there becomes a fog when you don't get away from it a little bit."

The Yellow Jackets don't get a break all week however. Monday and Friday were the off days and Central took the field for practice on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. However, there is no game prep this week. Rather the coaching staff is looking inward, finding holes in the team that need to be plugged.

"We really just focused on us, not necessarily focusing on a particular team," Rogers said. "Really just trying to look at us, some things that we have to do better and stay sharp and work on some special teams situations that we wanted to make sure to cover. Really more intrinsic, making sure we're looking from the inside out and then next week we'll start the game week process back again."

Thomas County Central will take to the practice field on Monday as they begin to prepare for their week five match up against Brooks County.
